A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

Happy New Year!  I am a resolution optimist, enthusiastically setting a plethora of goals for the year and new habits to start.  Sometimes I’m successful--earlier this year I resolved to park several blocks away in order to get a few more steps in my day, a habit I’ve been able to keep up except on those days I’m carrying a heavy load into the building.  Other times, not so much; I think I’ll have to wait until retirement before I have time to read a hundred books in one year.

If attendance has been a challenge for your child this fall, now is a great time to make a new year’s attendance resolution to help your child get on track for success in school and life.

Some suggestions for this year....

  • I will talk to my child about how going to school every day will help them do well in school and achieve their hopes and dreams

  • I will keep an attendance chart at home. At the end of the week, I will recognize my child for attending school every day with 'Insert Idea' (i.e. a visit to the park, a new book, a break from doing chores, a special treat)

  • I will make sure my child is in bed by XX p.m. and the alarm clock is set for XX a.m.

New Devices?

With the recent holidays, we know that some students may have received new gadgets and devices.  I want to give a friendly reminder that we have an "Off and Away" policy during the school day - for safety, privacy, and limiting learning distractions. In addition, the school is not responsible for any lost or stolen devices. If you want to make sure that your child’s watch, phone, or other device is safe, we can arrange to have it stored in the front office.  As a reminder, here is our cell phone/device policy

Thank you for your help!

Live Round Up:

Round Ups are our weekly assemblies to build community with students across the school.  Most weeks we do this virtually, but once a month we are holding live Round Ups in the auditorium. We invite parents to join us, especially if their child is performing. This month, 4th grade will be performing at our live Round Up on Friday, January 20th at 8:00 am.  These last about 15-20 minutes. We ask that parents sit in the balcony upstairs if they wish to attend.

NEWS FROM THE PTA

BECOME A MEMBER OF THE PTA!

Sign up Here to become a member of the PTA! The PTA helps support educational programs, coordinates parent volunteers, and organizes fundraising events to benefit the entire school. It’s a great way to stay in-the-know about news & events happening around school, to share your ideas and to strengthen our school community.

Your annual membership dues of $15 cover our school’s national PTA dues, insurance for school events, 501(c)3 designation (which is necessary for receiving grants and donations), and other school events and initiatives.

We want the PTA to be an opportunity for everyone. If financial dues are a hardship, please select the ‘scholarship membership’ option when signing up.

LET'S GET TO KNOW ....

MR. HENDRICKSON (4th GRADE)!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?

Ribs and anything Italian are my favorites.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A CHAPMAN TEACHER?

It would definitely be the support I receive from the Chapman community.

YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO WHEN NOT TEACHING?

I like to hang out with my husband and see my grandson as often as possible!

Hello Chapman Parents,

The PTA would very much like to put on a STEAM (combination STEM & ART) event in the spring for all students. This would require a LARGE group of parents to contribute to the event AND run the different activities. We need YOUR HELP. Do you have a background in STEM? Are you excited about your children learning fun Sciency stuff? Could your business or profession contribute to our event? Do you just want to help out the night of? Email me if you are interested in helping with this event in ANY capacity. If there aren't enough volunteers to run and plan this event, it just won't happen, so please reach out ASAP.

As always, thank you so much for your support!
