A NOTE FROM ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL CORONA

Hello Chapman Families,

We are 2 weeks into February and it feels as if the month is almost over. I always feel like spring is around the corner and yet we are still expecting at least another month of cold mornings. With that said, please remember to send your children to school with a thick coat. And of course, do remind them to bring it back home with them. We are having to pick up coats every day from the playground and turf that were left out all day. Teachers will keep encouraging but it does not hurt to check the Lost and Found as they walk by. We will bring those racks out for parents next Friday. We already have a huge collection.

On another note about February, Chapman staff decided to focus on kindness and friendship this month, what a surprise. What that means is that both teachers and counselors are focusing their social-emotional lessons on building community and kindness for one another. Please ask your children what kind gesture they did at school. It helps when you give them ideas. I am sure they are all doing something that is nice for a classmate, but they may not even be aware of the impact a kind gesture has on other people. Adults will also be noticing children being kind and good friends and we will be giving out Swift Tickets to go in a mini-chimney for an end-of-the-month extra recess or classroom pj party.

On the attendance front, Chapman as a school is at 91% for the past month and trending up. Good job sending your children to school everyday on time and ready to learn! On the class count, this 2 week period that class with the best attendance was Mr. Schreib’s in 5th grade!

We are currently taking the Successful Schools Survey with students from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. Teachers are taking it on their own and parents should have received an email from the district with a link to the survey. Please do take the time to answer these questions as they guide some of our work in regards to creating a safe and equitable learning environment for your children. If you have not received this link, do reach out to me for more information at gcorona@pps.net.

Thank you and have a wonderful 4 day weekend!

SPRING MUSICAL PRODUCTION OF THE WIZARD OF OZ!

JUNE 6TH, 2023 at 6:30pm

Spring Musical Production

On Thursday, June 8th at 6:30 p.m., students from the 4th & 5th grade chorus will perform “The Wizard of Oz.”  We are so excited to bring back the annual Spring Musical; something Chapman Elementary has been presenting for many decades.

All 4th& 5th grade chorus students are invited to participate in this musical as a member of the “company.” The company musical numbers will be taught during lunch recess each Wednesday and Thursday.  (Please note, interested 4th & 5th grade students who want to participate in chorus (and the musical) should plan to attend chorus rehearsals starting Wednesday, Feb. 15th.  The chorus meets in the music room every Wednesday and Thursday during lunch recess.)

Fourth and fifth grade chorus students wanting a principal part will have the opportunity to audition. Auditions are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 6th and Friday, April 7th.  Watch this space for more specific information about the auditions.

Finally, we need more than a yellow brick road to get to our Emerald City.  I am clicking my heels and saying, “We need volunteers … we need volunteers … we need volunteers.”  So, if you are interested, please contact Reed Clark (music teacher).  The only qualifications required are a brain, a heart, a bit of courage and a lot of love.  Thank you in advance for helping us on our journey through the land of Oz.

$ DINING FOR DOLLARS $

Join us for our next Chapman Dining for Dollar$ at the Hostel Cafe on Tuesday February 28th.  Hostel Cafe will donate 15% of proceeds from the day to Chapman, so grab some coffee and a pastry in the morning, meet a friend for lunch, or get there for some music and dinner on that Tuesday night.  Hostel Cafe will be having live family music from 5pm to 6pm AND our very own MR. MELLING will be playing for all of us, starting at 6:15!

And a huge thank you to all the families that joined us at Breakside for our first Dining for Dollar$ of 2023!

LET'S GET TO KNOW ....

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A CHAPMAN TEACHER?
