PPS District Calendar 2022-2023 School Year

A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

May is flying by and it feels like the end of this remarkable year is coming at us swiftly. So much is happening to both celebrate the year and prepare for a new one. The Talent Show is back and looks to be better than ever. Mr. Study with the help of some fabulous parent volunteers are planning a “FUNd Run” similar to the Run for the Arts that was the highlight of the year for so many students. And everyday, I get to hear the musical rehearsals in our auditorium. Along with planning all of these end-of-year activities, teachers are also busy preparing for next year by creating class lists for next year’s teachers. This process is complex and involves consideration of a variety of the learning needs of children.

Parents play a part in this process as well.  To aid us, please fill out our Class Placement Information Survey. Your teacher may have already sent you the link; it is also at the end of this paragraph. You will need to fill out one for each student you have. Please understand that we do not accept requests for specific teachers, nor is it always possible to accommodate other requests. While we can try to accommodate requests to either keep certain friends together or apart, to meet all of these requests is often impossible. That said, all kids will have familiar classmates from their current class in their classroom next year that the teacher has identified as someone who works well with your child.. Your 2023-2024 teacher will be announced in your welcome back letter at the end of summer. Please be aware that unless we have overlooked something, changing classes will not be possible. Class Placement Information Survey.

A couple of other quick announcements:

  • We had our first Kindergarten Connect last week and it was a blast! If you have an incoming kindergartener please consider coming to our next one on Thursday, May 25th at 3:00.

  • Due to scheduling conflicts, we have had to move the date of the musical performance (The Wizard of Oz) to Monday, June 12th.

  • Our attendance goal is to have all of our students attending school at least 90% of the time. This means that students should be missing less than 17 days in the school year or, on average, less than 2 days a month. We know that illnesses throughout the year are unavoidable and often families take vacations during the school year. Currently, over 35% of Chapman students are attending school less than 90% of the time. Please help us to improve our school attendance rate by limiting the number of days missed between now and the end of the school year. If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please make sure to call the Attendance Line at 503-916-3619.
