A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

Greetings Swift Families!

Welcome to the last few days of the 22-23 school year! As I write the last Chimney Flyer of the school year, I am so thankful to have had the honor of spending this time with your children. It has been another incredible year thanks to you! We had amazing community support that helped us to have a phenomenal year. Our evening family events this year were out of this world! From our Literacy Nights, STEAM Night, the Winter Festival, and the Talent Show, Chapman families and staff came together throughout the year to celebrate and strengthen community ties. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who made these long-lasting memories possible!

The end of every year is always bittersweet, and this year is even more so as we say goodbye to some longtime members of the swift flock. As you likely know, Mr. Hendrickson is retiring this year. His former students number close to a thousand, so there is no way to measure the incredible impact he has had on our community.  In addition, Jaclyn Ford will be moving on to a different adventure next year. We will miss them terribly and I hope they know they will be welcome to grace our halls at any time. Swifts return to the chimney, even if it’s just for a brief visit.

Register for Kindergarten Online

If you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, please register for kindergarten! To register, go to http://www.pps.net/kinderenroll.

The process takes 20-30 minutes and school staff will follow up with you later in the summer. With schools closed, online registration is the easiest option, but paper options will be available soon. You don’t need to register if your child attends a PPS Head Start or Pre-Kindergarten program.

We will formally elect new officers for the 23-24 school year via Zoom on June 16th at noon. All PTA members and others interested in getting involved in PTA are requested and invited to join.

We will see you again in September. For any questions during the summer please contact us at chapmanschoolpta@gmail.com.

Enjoy the summer!

LET'S GET TO KNOW .... MRS. SCHAEDIG (2ND GRADE)!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD?

I don’t really have a”favorite” food but my husband is from Hawaii and he makes the best island-style food. His grilled shoyu chicken should be served in a restaurant!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A CHAPMAN TEACHER?

My favorite thing about being a teacher at Chapman is the community. I couldn’t do this job without the support of my colleagues and our Chapman families.

YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO WHEN NOT TEACHING?

When I’m not teaching, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my daughters and husband. They keep my heart full and inspire me to be the best person I can be.

CHAPMAN BIKE TRAIN - EVERY WEDNESDAY

WEEKLY WEDNESDAY BIKE TRAIN

We have 1 more week left of the Wednesday Bike Train!  We are back to the usual short bike train loop after celebrating International Bike to School Day this last Wednesday.  See attached for the map of the route and stop times.

We have recruited a few biking buddies so if you have a student that wants to participate but you are unable to join them, let me know and we can pair them up with their own biking buddy!

Questions - send them to  anniedusher@gmail.com.

Volunteers - if you can help out please email anniedusher@gmail.com.

BUY A CHAPMAN BRICK

As the school year ends is approaching, we are opening up our Buy a Brick store via Friends of Chapman!  Engraved bricks installed by the Chapman playground allow you to leave a legacy along with your donation to Chapman. A legacy brick can be a fabulous gift in honor of a favorite teacher, grandparents, or upcoming 5th-grade graduate.  Legacy Brick sales will be open until June 31st this year, with engraving happening this summer.

All questions should be directed to Annie Usher at anniedusher@gmail.com.

LIBRARY NEWS

Hello Chapman Families!

June is just around the corner, and it's almost time for students to start returning their library books.  Students should look at home and at school for any books that they may have checked out.  They can return books to the library any time during the week.

Also, be on the lookout for PPS Library Services' annual end-of-year email notices, which will go out the first week of June.  The notice will not be a bill, but a reminder of all books that students have on their library accounts, and a request that they return all library books before they leave for the summer.

Thank you for helping us keep our library materials available for everyone to use!

IT IS TIME TO RETRIEVE YOUR ITEMS....

June 9 will be the last day to pick up lost and found!

Lost and Found will be outside May 26, June 2 and the last day June 9 (ALL DAYS 2-2:30pm).

All applicable Items left behind will be reused within the PPS community for current/new kiddos.
