Greetings Chapman Swift Families!
As I write this, students are lining up to enter the auditorium, wearing their Picture Day outfits and smiles. I’m reminded of how so many grade school customs have endured over generations. Picture Day, as simple as it seems, is always a little bit exciting. Kids love showing off what they chose to wear (or what was chosen for them) and we all love looking forward to the end result, some of us with a bit more trepidation than others.
Another enduring custom is the school book fair. When I gave a tour to alumni last week, one of the questions was--do you still do the book fair? I loved book fairs when I was a kid and I love that this is still a school tradition.
This year, we are bringing back another one--our costume parade. Teachers will be sharing more information about this as we get closer, but we do invite families to watch outside in the park as we parade the circumference of the park in our costumes. This will take place on October 31 at 9:00. We will have a rainy day contingency plan, just in case.
And we are starting a new custom: Bingo for Books. We hope you can join us on October 19th at 6:00 for this fun event. We will be calling bingo and serving root beer floats until 7:30.
Every two weeks we recognize the class with the best attendance. Last time, Mr. Bush’s 4th grade class won the award and today we announced that Ms. Ritzinger’s 5th graders had the highest attendance for the last two weeks with an impressive 98% attendance rate. Great work everyone!
A few reminders and announcements:
We do have a strict cell phone/smart watch/electronic device policy. Click on this link to review it.
Please be on time to pick students up at the end of the day. We do not have any adult supervision available after school hours. Students can not “hang out” on school property to wait for an adult to pick them up. All students playing on the turf or playground after school must have an adult supervising them.
The Successful Schools Survey is happening earlier this year. Read this memo to learn about last year’s results and the plan for this year’s survey.
Anyone want a large reptile tank? I have one available in my office for free, but you must be able to come to pick it up.
