FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

Happy December Chapman Swifts! I hope everyone has a warm and wonderful winter break filled with joyous time with loved ones. I want to take this opportunity to thank our PTA for all of their generosity toward staff. We so appreciate all that you do for us and the special gifts before we head off into the holiday season. Thank you also for everything you do for the whole Chapman community, including all of the work involved in providing Thanksgiving and Winter food baskets for many of our families.

Speaking of gifts, staff prepared special gifts for our K-3 students: homework packets!!! Woohoo!! But seriously, we would love for students to keep practicing the foundational skills that they’ve been learning. Please invite your child to show off the learning they’ve been doing in reading and writing!

Finally, a quick announcement about the TAG referral process--the window is now open and will close January 10th. You can read here for important details.

GO TEAM CHAPMAN!

A HUGE thank you to everybody who supported both of our Chapman food drives this season. We delivered 35 Thanksgiving meals, and another 70 bags of pantry staples for the Winter Break. We have so much appreciation for everyone who showed support - either by donating money, shopping for food or loading up bags. It's efforts like this that really put the power of our Chapman community on display.

POTLUCK IN THE PARK

The 30th annual Potluck in the Park Christmas Dinner will be served Wed., Dec. 25th from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Portland Art Museum. A traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served, accompanied by live music from some of Portland’s finest jazz musicians. Santa Claus will be there for photos with guests after just a couple of hours of sleep. Dinner and entertainment is free and open to the public.

If you'd like to volunteer, you can register here

Potluck in the Park welcomes donations of homemade or commercial non-perishable pies and cakes for our Christmas Dinner. Contact xmasbakedgoods@potluckinthepark.org if interested in donating.

We understand that some members of our community might be feeling anxious about possible changes coming from the new federal administration, particularly in regard to immigrant rights. Portland Public Schools is committed to keeping our staff, students, and community members safe, and we are here to help: rmd.me/5kTsuD4P8Lh

Please contact Darcy Wilde 971-716-5498 (confidential phone/text) if you have concerns about immigration. I am here to listen and share information and resources.
