FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

Greetings Chapman Families,

Welcome to the year 2025! I hope that everyone had joyous winter breaks with family and loved ones. It was so wonderful to see everyone return last week and hear about family celebrations. Unfortunately, I caught the flu as soon as we returned and was out for much of the week. This is the first year in a long while that I haven’t gotten the flu shot and I will always make sure to get one from here on out. And it’s not just me--our health office has been busy non-stop with kids being sent home with flu-like symptoms. The OHA recently updated their guidelines for when to keep kids home. Please review them and keep students home if they are sick. OHA Symptom Exclusions

Another post break reminder: With the recent holidays, we know that some students may have received new gadgets and devices. I want to give a friendly reminder that we have an "Off and Away" policy during the school day - for safety, privacy, and to limit learning distractions. In addition, the school is not responsible for any lost or stolen devices. If you want to make sure that your child’s watch, phone, or other device is safe, we can arrange to have it stored in the front office. As a reminder, here is our cell phone/device policy. You may have heard that PPS has adopted a similar cell phone policy that will be implemented at all schools K-12 starting next year. It may in fact be even stricter than our current policy, so we will adjust this if needed. Thank you for your help!

And finally - I will be holding a Principal’s Coffee after our next live round up on Friday, 1/24 (8:30-9:00). I’ll be giving a short presentation about testing and assessments and I promise it will be much more interesting than that sounds and there will be no tests given! We are in the middle of our Winter Assessment Window and I would love to share what that means for your child and for our school.

BIG THANK YOU!

As a result of the gracious donations from many Chapman parents, we were able to give Holiday Gifts to ALL Teachers & Support Staff! We had enough funds to gift a $30 Visa gift card and some delicious chocolates. We’ve heard the gifts were well-received, and appreciate everyone who participated!
