A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

Greetings Swift Families!

Is everyone still doing their 15? We had so much fun last month, between the reading competition and Literacy Night. But don’t stop now! Keep encouraging your child to read daily. Ask them questions about their reading and see if they have any questions. Many teachers have still been sending bookmarks home, so please remind your student to turn it in! We are going to continue to fill our chimney with book-loving swifts!

This month, we’re running a math campaign to encourage students to complete (and pass) at least 2 MyPath lessons. These are lessons that are tailored to the individual math learning needs of each student. Each classroom devotes some time each week to engaging with MyPath, but your child can also access it from home. Read this document for instructions on how to access from home.

Come Celebrate Our Student Honorees & Arts Education

Come celebrate the extraordinary work of our student artists and over a decade of funding for public school arts, with arts performances and an exhibition featuring student honorees from our school!

Portland Public Schools is proud to partner with the Portland Art Museum, our host of the 2025 HeART of Portland: A PPS K-12 Arts Showcase. This premier district-wide annual event kicks off with an evening of student dance, music, and theatre performances, plus the opening of a stunning student visual art exhibition featuring over 100+ works.

🎨 Breaking the Grid: This year's student visual arts exhibition also features a citywide collaborative student art project inspired by the Portland Art Museum exhibition Psychedelic Rock Posters and Fashion of the 1960s. Guided by visual arts educators, students designed posters in the bold, expressive style of the exhibition, reflecting their hopes and dreams for their communities.
