Greetings Chapman Families!
As this season is one in which we often share gratitude, I want to share a few of my own with you.
I’m so thankful for all of the support our entire community has given to our students and our school. We have an entire village of volunteers, neighbors, families and staff that make such an incredible impact for students and families.
I’m grateful for all of the donations that have been coming in for our food pantry and I’m grateful that our school can serve as a community hub for our families.
I’m thankful that I’m in a job that allows me to see teachers working magic with children every day. Our teachers work so hard to help students learn. Getting to witness the light bulb go on for a student when they’re trying to tap out a word or having a student want to read to me from an essay they just wrote is always the best part of the day.
During conferences, I am in the building all day both days. If I’m available, I’m happy to chat with you and hear what you’re grateful for, what changes you’d like to see and what your holiday plans are.
Just a reminder--there is no school next week for students. We have conferences Monday & Tuesday and the rest of the week off for the Thanksgiving holiday.
KCLC After Care Has Spots Open!
Do you need aftercare for the school year? Or an awesome place for your kid to go on closure days? KCLC currently has about a few spots available!

KCLC is a single site non profit after-school program located at MLC in NW Portland (by Trader Joe's) that has been providing high-quality care to the Portland community for over 45 years. There is a quick and safe PPS bus ride that takes students from your child’s school to MLC after school every day. If you have any questions, please contact Michael at michael@kidscommunitypdx.org.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM Dismissal-6pm M-F
During after-school time, KCLC provides various educational and enrichment activities through free choice, structured activities in art, literature, nature and science as well as active games taught by our highly qualified, compassionate, professional staff. Quiet academic time, including homework assistance, is offered Monday-Thursday.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
Kinder-5th grade
We offer a variety of enrichment clubs after school for Fall, Winter and Spring sessions. Clubs include art, theater, music, martial arts, science, sports, gardening and more. Session guides are made available to families before the beginning of each session.
MUSIC PROGRAM
5yrs+
KCLC offers one-on-one music instruction in piano, guitar, ukulele, bass guitar and drums.
CLOSURE DAY PROGRAM 8am-5pm
We provide all day programming on Teacher Planning Days, Professional Development Days, In-Service Days, Winter Break and Spring Break. Kids can enjoy a day full of activities including planned games and activities, free choice, group games, and field trips. KCLC does not provide care on Federal Holidays. Please see our calendar for specific closure dates.
