A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

Greetings Chapman Families!

Each end of year brings us reasons to celebrate students’ accomplishments. Our students and staff work so hard, so it’s important to recognize the fruits of all of the learning and persistence that our community puts forth. While we are still in the thick of our end-of-year testing, we have just completed our spring math assessments that we use to measure growth and achievement and they are a HUGE reason to celebrate. One of the pieces of growth data we collect is the percentage growth that students make over the course of the year. The goal is for students to make 100% growth by the end of the year. In the spring of 2024, our school wide average annual growth was 88%. In 2025, it was 92%. This year, our students’ average growth was 108%. This is phenomenal and definitely cause for celebration!

You may be wondering about the PPS Rightsizing conversations that are going on or have questions about school closures. The district has a handy website with all kinds of information (we looked at the utilization map at the last PTA meeting), including a poll that closes tonight. Check out the Rightsizing website here.

Register for Kindergarten Online

If you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, please register for kindergarten! To register, go to pps.net/kinderenroll. The process takes 20-30 minutes and school staff will follow up with you later in the summer. With schools closed, online registration is the easiest option, but paper options are available in the front office. For questions or help with registrations, please email Julia Young at juyoung@pps.net.

CAUGHT BEING KIND

This year, our 5th Grade Leadership Team worked hard to implement our new Caught Being Kind Program. Each month, staff recognize students who have gone above and beyond demonstrating kindness by filling out a Caught Being Kind card. 5th Grade Leaders honor these students with a monthly shout out during Round Up. Check out our Caught Being Kind banner in the 2nd grade hallway to view our honored students and their contribution to a safe, kind and welcoming community at Chapman!

SPRING PLAY: TANGLED

Thursday, May 21

12:30 p.m.

6:00 p.m.

This event is FREE. Come check it out all the hard work our 3rd, 4th & 5th graders have put into this production!

If you have capacity to lend a hand, please check out the sign up sheet here

THIS RUN DOESN'T RUN ITSELF

We need your help! With 320 students running around Wallace Park, trying to count how many laps they get in, making sure they are watered and stay on track, with finish line popsicles to boot, it's a volunteer full-court press situation. If you've got your PPS background check complete, and are planning to be around to cheer, why not lend a hand while you're here

SUMMER EBT IS BACK!

Each summer, families can get one payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy groceries. Program starts June 1st. Families with eligible children will be notified when benefits issue. https://www.oregon.gov/odhs/food/pages/sebt.aspx

For help, email:  summerebtinfo@odhs.oregon.gov

Girls on the Run coming to Chapman

Girls on the Run is excited to be offering a program at Chapman for the Fall 2026 season. The team will meet twice per week from September 21st - November 13th.

Girls on the Run is an after-school empowerment program for girls in grades 3rd-5th. Through fun activities, movement, and meaningful conversations, girls build confidence, develop friendships, and learn skills to manage emotions and stand up for themselves and others. No running experience is needed, and all abilities are welcome!

Please fill out this form if you're interested. Additional details and official registration information will be shared at a later date.
