Our School Social Worker has established a partnership with Lift Up Portland to help fight food insecurity at Chapman. Lift Up has a mission to reduce hunger and improve the lives of low-income residents in NW and Downtown Portland. Food boxes will need to be picked-up from Lift Up and delivered to Chapman at noon on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
To help keep all families in the loop, Chapman staff are going to be sending home a weekly folder for every student in every class this year. Yay!
Volunteers are requested to help bring this dream to life. They're looking for 6-8 weekly volunteers every Tuesday morning to stuff folders from 8:30-9:30 AM.
Sign up to help out during lunch & recess now! This is likely the biggest ongoing need for support during the school day and a fun way to get to interact with lots of kids & school staff. You can sign up for one-off days when it works for your schedule or select a reoccurring weekly time. Help is welcome any time that you can provide, even if that means you aren't able to cover the entire duration of lunch-recess.... anything helps! Please make sure you have completed the required PPS Background Check prior to sign up (https://www.pps.net/volunteer)
There are two kinds of volunteer opportunities in the library:
1) Shelving and organizing books during planning times
2) Supervising and helping students find books during grade library class times.
Knowledge of library organization or kid's books is preferred but not needed - Chapman Librarian Ms. Melissa Juska will provide training!
Hosting a Coffee Cart is a great way to show Chapman staff & teachers some love and spread joy around the school! Opportunities for the coffee cart are immediately following every Live Round-Up. Click here to learn more & sign up.
