A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

May is already here and it feels like the end of this remarkable year is coming at us swiftly. So much is happening to both celebrate the year and prepare for a new one. We just had an amazing STEM Night last week and will be hosting an Art Night next week. (Thanks to parent volunteer, AJ Schricker!) Mr. Studt with the help of some fabulous parent volunteers are planning an amazing “FUNd Run” that promises to be even more FUN that last year’s. And everyday, I get to hear the musical rehearsals in our auditorium. Along with planning all of these end-of-year activities, teachers are also busy preparing for next year by creating class lists for next year’s teachers. This process is complex and involves consideration of a variety of the learning needs of children.

Parents play a part in this process as well. To aid us, please fill out our Class Placement Information Survey. We have a google form for you to share information about your child and plans for next year, but we will also be sending paper copies home next week if that’s easier for you. We are asking that these be completed by Monday, May 13th. You will need to fill out one for each student you have. Please understand that we do not accept requests for specific teachers. Teachers work hard to place your child with at least one familiar classmate from their current class that they have  identified as someone who works well with your child. Your 2024-2025 teacher will be announced in your welcome back letter at the end of summer. Please be aware that unless we have overlooked something, changing classes will not be possible. Class Placement Information Survey. Fifth Grade families do not need to fill out this form.

A couple of other quick announcements:

  • We’ve hosted two different Kindergarten Connect events recently and they were  a blast! If you have an incoming kindergartener please consider coming to our next event on Thursday, May 30th at 10:00. Incoming kindergartners will get a chance to experience a kindergarten classroom while parents and guardians will be able to get all of the last minute questions answered.

  • Our attendance goal is to have all of our students attending school at least 90% of the time. This means that students should be missing less than 17 days in the school year or, on average, less than 2 days a month. We know that illnesses throughout the year are unavoidable and often families take vacations during the school year. Please help us to improve our school attendance rate by limiting the number of days missed between now and the end of the school year. If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please make sure to call the Attendance Line at 503-916-3619.
