Greetings Chapman Swift Families,
Autumn is officially here! I know the calendar and the equinox typically tell us when Fall starts, but I tend to have a different indicator for this--the first indoor rainy day recess. And that day was today. The downpour today was heavy enough that we decided to keep students inside. During indoor recess, students typically play with legos or draw or pull out a board game. As a reminder, most days, when it’s sprinkling, students will go outside for recess. They can choose to play under the covered area or stay on the turf, but we do try to make sure they are able to go out into the fresh air and run around. Please make sure to label all rain jackets with your child’s name!
As many of you know, this is Chapman’s first year without an Assistant Principal. We do have other support staff who are able to take on some of the responsibilities of an AP. While we all work together and support each other, you might want to contact one of them for specific student needs.
Shalonda Zeno is our School Climate Specialist. She handles most student discipline issues that are bigger than what a classroom teacher would handle. You can contact her at szeno@pps.net.
Steffany Black is our School Counselor. She works with individual and small groups of students to help meet their social emotional needs. You can contact her at stblack@pps.net.
Darcy Wilde is our School Social Worker. She is here to help families in lots of ways. If you need any assistance outside of school, you can contact her at dwilde@pps.net.
Finally, I have a favor to ask: without an AP my own workload has increased. Many of you have sent me emails that I haven’t responded to as quickly as I would have liked. If you sent me something and didn’t get a response, please resend it or call the office (503) 916-6295 to make an appointment for a quick phone conversation with me. Sometimes a phone conversation is actually more efficient than an email conversation.
I hope to see you all at our Bingo 4 Books event next Thursday!
