A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL VAN DER WOLF

Greetings Swift Families,

We are over half way through October and time sure is flying! Conferences are just around the corner, as well as many other upcoming important dates. Here are a few to keep in mind:

  • Wednesday, 10/23: Early Release

  • Thursday, 10/31: Chapman Costume Parade, 9:00 a.m.

  • Friday, 11/1 and Monday 11/4:  No school for report card grading and  planning for 2nd quarter instruction.

  • Monday 11/11: No School, Veteran’s Day

  • Wednesday 11/20:  Early Release

  • Monday 11/25 and Tuesday 11/26:  Parent Teacher Conferences (no school on these days)

Please join us for our annual Costume Parade! We invite families to watch outside in the park as we parade the circumference of the park in our costumes. This will take place on October 31 at 9:00. We will have a rainy day contingency plan, just in case. In an effort to safely and respectfully enjoy our costumes at Chapman, we ask that students use the following guidelines:

  • No masks or costumes that cover the face, including half-masks or face paint.

  • No props/toys/accessories - especially no fake weapons or weapon holsters.

  • No large, bulky, or inflatable costumes.

  • No costumes that perpetuate a stereotype of someone's culture, gender, heritage, or religion

THE WEATHER IS CHANGING

You can hear it among the chatter at drop-off. "There's a chill in the air." "It seems fall is here." And you can see it in the leaves. And in the Lost & Found. If you happen to be at the school, take a moment to look for your student's missing items. And please put their names in jackets and sweatshirts.

CHAPMAN NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Please consider VOLUNTEERING at our school to support a wonderful 2024-2025 experience for our students!

So much of what makes Chapman a wonderful place is our community of volunteers, including event help and classroom assistance. Start by submitting your PPS volunteer application and background check. And then check out Chapman's volunteer portal for needs and opportunities.

Upcoming opportunities include:

Kinder lunch room help

Library organizing & class times

National School Bus Safety Week

National School Bus Safety Week is October 21-25. We must all work together to ensure that kids get to and from school safely! We will be reviewing bus protocols with students.

How can you participate:

  • Follow all laws when you encounter buses on the road

  • Remind other drivers to be alert around students and bus

  • Review bus safety rules with your children

  • DO NOT park in the bus loading zone!

Check out the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) for more information.

DENTAL CHECK UPS FOR 2ND & 3RD

All 2nd and 3rd graders have the opportunity to receive free dental check ups and sealants the week of October 28-31, right at Chapman.

The form and information: Dental Sealants | Multnomah County

A video explaining the process: Seal in a Smile 2016

Parents/guardians: Please return the signed permission slip with a YES or NO response.
