Greeting Chapman Swift Families!
February may be the shortest month, but we packed it full of fun and learning! If you were able to join us for Round Up last Friday, then not only did you get to enjoy the beautiful singing of our 2nd graders, but you also learned about the fun reading challenge that will run all the way up to our Family Literacy Night on March 20th. Reading on their own counts of course, but students can also read with an adult, read to a younger family member, and listen to audiobooks. As part of this, every student has received 2 books that they get to keep: Just Ask, by Sonia Sotomeier for our K-2 students, The Harlem Shuffle by Natasha Tarpley for our 3-5 students, and The Three Questions by Jon Muth for everyone. Students can choose these books, or try different books to read as part of the challenge. You can see the presentation we share with students here: Chapman Swifts Taking Flight
We’ll share links to read aloud resources throughout the month; let’s start with this delightful reading of The Three Questions read by Meryl Streep. Schedule a family reading time and read along while listening!
Thank you to the PTA for putting on the incredible Tall/Small Dance last Friday! It was so much fun seeing everyone having fun on the dance floor and taking goofy pictures at the photo booth! This is just an example of the many wonderful things our PTA does. If you would like to be a part of helping the PTA out, please consider joining!
Last week, we also held our first Chapman Pantry & Pop-Up Market for families who need a little help and it was such a success! Our social worker, Darcy Wilde, worked with Lift Up to organize this and it was very much appreciated by several of our Chapman families. Pantry staples are available at any time (first check in with Ms. Darcy by texting or calling 971-716-5498) and the fresh food pop-up will be available once a month. The next one will be Thursday, March 20th, the same evening as our Family Literacy Night! Thank you Ms. Darcy and thank you Lift Up!
