Greetings Swift Families!
It was so wonderful to see such an incredible turnout at our Cheer Round Up last week! The students shared their cheers for the new school year and they were all inspiring. Our Friday Round Up assemblies are one of the many things we do to build community with students. We try to keep them short, about 20 minutes or so, and we alternate between virtual assemblies that we run over Google Meets in everyone’s classrooms and in-person assemblies in our auditorium.  Our first in-person assembly will be next Friday, September 26th right at 8:00 (this is the morning after our Back To School Night). Families are invited to join us in the balcony.
One of our big school improvement goals for the year is around attendance. To be blunt, Chapman’s school attendance last year was worse than the district’s average, although we were able to increase it by 1% point last year. Our current attendance goal reads: By June 2028, the overall percentage of students with good or acceptable attendance rates will increase by 15%, from 61% to 76%. We have an Attendance Team that works directly with families to help students improve their attendance, but we also want everyone to know how important it is to show up every day. In our classrooms, every day each class has 100% attendance will help the class earn a celebration. And while we want to build opportunities for celebrating, the real benefit is the consistent access to learning that your child will be able to build upon each day.
I hope to meet each of you at our Back to School Night this Thursday, September 25th. We start at 5:30 with a pizza dinner and then follow up with a presentation in the auditorium promptly at 6:00.  After that you will have a chance to meet the classroom teachers, tour the school, and get support with ParentSquare. See you then!
